How to Become a Twitch Affiliate

For anyone hoping to make a living in streaming, Twitch is the place to be. The very name of the platform has become synonymous with streaming. So much so, that virtually anyone who wants to be a streamer–no matter what genre–needs to hit the first milestone on the journey to streaming success… Twitch Affiliate.

What is a Twitch Affiliate?

Simply put, a Twitch Affiliate is the minimum milestone a Twitch streamer needs to hit to be able to start earning income from their live streams. It’s the first benchmark that Twitch uses to determine what sets a high-quality stream apart from the rest.

Twitch Affiliates can begin charging for subscriptions, as well as earning money through Bits earned when viewers Cheer on their stream. Each Bit being worth $0.01/Bit. Monetizing the stream is the first step towards becoming a serious streamer, and hopefully being a streamer full-time someday.

So, how does a Twitch streamer become a certified Twitch Affiliate? Well, by simply meeting a few criteria…

How to Become a Twitch Affiliate.

In order to become a Twitch Affiliate, all you need to do is reach a small checklist of criteria, and maintain that level of production. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Have 500 broadcast minutes in the last 30 days (minimum).

    • Twitch affiliates need to stream, and stream often. This means that you need to maintain at least 500 minutes (about 8.3hrs) of broadcasting a month. This is a relatively easy benchmark to hit for those who take streaming seriously.

  •  Stream at least 7 days in the last 30 days.

    •  Twitch Affiliates need to stream 7 individual–unique–days in a 30-day span. This doesn’t mean having 7 separate streams. The streams need to be on separate calendar days. This is also a pretty easy benchmark to hit if you are serious about streaming.

  •  Have an average of 3 concurrent viewers over the last 30 days.

    •  Twitch Affiliates need to maintain an average of 3 viewers per stream, per month. So, tell your friends and family to tune in!

  •  Have at least 50 followers.

    • This is likely the most difficult step in becoming an Affiliate. You need to be able to secure a minimum of 50 followers to begin earning income off the platform. So, encourage your viewers to follow you–a follow is free!
